Description
The full features of the ARP Avatar are often withheld from their users due to the requirement of a proprietary guitar pickup, effectively rendering them a less desirable Odyssey box. But their true power is so much more!
The Series Circuits Avatar Hex Input Mixer is an accessory for the ARP Avatar that allows the user to connect any device in their studio to the Avatar’s guitar input section. It employs a passive design that allows the user to switch between 3.5mm (1/8″) and 6.35mm (1/4″) audio connector inputs for each of the Avatar’s six guitar input channels, as well as individual channel volume controls.
This allows the user to make the most out of their Avatar’s functions, including the following guitar-only features:
- Hex fuzz
- Hex preamps
- Stereo outputs
- Oscillator pitch tracking
- Envelope following
- VCF audio processing
The device is designed with care and quality, including the following materials:
- Native Australian jarrah wood
- EVA slider dust covers
- Polycarbonate overlay
- 2.5mm thick bead-blasted and anodised aluminium case
Each one is hand-made in Sydney, Australia. As such there will be variations between units, particularly regarding the wood sides as I am not a professional woodworker.
This is a passive and unpowered device, except for a compartment for 2xAA batteries for the slide potentiometer LEDs.
This is not a passive mixer as no summing occurs on the device. When connected to an Avatar the channels are buffered and processed on the Avatar’s side. This means that although this is externally a passive mixer, when connected to an Avatar it is effectively a powered one, and hence suffers no drawbacks that passive mixers have.
